The structural mat creates a drainage layer on the back of the zinc as protection against condensation and also soundproofs roofs with zinc cladding.

Zinc roofs can be carried out on substructures with and without ventilation.
In buildings where the zinc cladding is mounted on an unventilated substructure, Rheinzink recommends using structural mats to help drain moisture away from the underside of the zinc cladding.
In this way, problems with corrosion and rot in load-bearing structures do not arise as a result of prolonged exposure to moisture.

Rheinzink AIR-Z is a structural mat which is recommended for constructions where zinc roofs with standing seams are mounted on roofing felt.
AIR-Z consists of sheets of curled wool and can be used on all roof slopes.
They act as a drainage layer between zinc and roofing felt and also have the positive property that they dampen the sound in rain by up to 9 dB(A).
